Additive Manufacturing: Integrated Industrial 3D Printing Solutions

Machine engineering for companies and research

We develop and manufacture customer-specific electron beam machines for the following processes: Welding, micro drilling and hardening. Powerful, automated and highly digitized machines are the prerequisites for high productivity and quality in modern manufacturing processes. We implement customer-specific machines and automation solutions for one-piece batches to high-volume manufacturing for welding, drilling and hardening processes. Our system technology guarantees a high level of automation, high reproducibility and maximum productivity. Thanks to the modular design, each machine can be individually adapted to meet your own requirements – even when it is already operational. We develop all our machine components ourselves and perfectly synchronize them to the process engineering application.

Thanks to more than 50 years experience in process engineering, we are the perfect partner for our customers from the very start of the development process.

Contract manufacturing for companies and research

Enjoy the benefits of our job order manufacturing expertise for the following processes: Welding, micro drilling, hardening and coating. Whether several hundred thousand small parts or 100-ton single pieces for large-scale research projects - we make the components for our customers. We are experts in electron beam welding, drilling and hardening. In addition, our specially developed diadur®DLC coating protects our tools and components from wear. We also continue to develop our manufacturing processes, push against the limits of technology and create new processes; all of which give our customers a significant competitive advantage.

Starting from the component development stage, we offer special expertise and holistic advice on subjects such as construction, the materials used and cost-effective production. Thus, we combine modern process engineering with high quality standards to achieve results that will impress across the board.

Electron beam welding in industry

Whether aerospace, automotive or research – the E-Beam is suitable for components from many industries.

Advantages of welding in a vacuum

Where other technologies reach their limitations, the precision welding process ensures optimum results:

  • Easy automation: Because the electron beam is a digital tool, joining processes can be easily automated, welding results are reproducible at any time and mechanical properties remain intact.

  • Flexibility: The electron beam can be made into any shape using magnetic fields to enable the welding of geometrically complex components. This gives engineers a great amount of freedom when it comes to process design and construction.

  • High efficiency: The process delivers deep, narrow and parallel seams. With simple seam preparation and a weld penetration depth of over 150 mm, electron beam joining is far superior to other thermal processes. This eliminates the need for multiple layer welding or additional material. Oversize is significantly reduced due to near-net-shape processing.

  • Maximum precision: Electron beam welding achieves precise results with minimum stress and warping of workpieces.

  • High welding speed: Many metallic materials and material combinations can be welded using an electron beam at a higher speed and with practically no ejections. Finished components are ready to install immediately or after only minimal reworking.

Efficient and cost-effective solutions for challenging components

Precise, flexible, easy to automate - these properties make the electron beam process the Number One choice for

  • All standard metals, challenging mechanical materials such as titanium, duplex steels, aluminum or hybrid material combinations as well as hard-to-weld steels

  • High load-bearing components

  • Workpieces with a wall thickness of more than 150 mm

  • Components with sensitive internal parts (for example sensors)

    Perforated sheets and components

Filters, screens and centrifugal disks for a wide range of industrial applications. We use an electron beam to manufacture perforated sheets and components. Our technology is able to realize the finest round holes and slots as well as conical and cylindrical openings in a fineness range from 60 - 1800 µm. In addition, high numbers of holes and deep holes are also possible.

Electron beam perforated elements are particularly well-suited for production processes in which the smallest holes and slots are required in relatively thick walls (0.3 mm up to 8 mm). The same is also true where high product requirements and demanding process conditions predominate. They are therefore the perfect choice for filter and screen media as well as centrifugal disks.

The perforated sheets can be individually configured: The perforation pattern can be flexibly adapted to specific system and process requirements. With regard to the material, a choice can also be made between all metallic alloys, including titanium and superalloys.

    Wire-based additive manufacturing

Innovative AM process based on well-established pro-beam technology – for demanding metals and alloys
The additive manufacturing of components using an electron beam (WEBAM – Wire Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing) enables faster production times than with other comparable AM processes. Using the principle of wire deposition welding, semi-finished products as well as large metal components can be manufactured in a flexible and highly productive manner – from a batch size of 1 up to serial production.

The production of three-dimensional industrial components is performed by continuously fusing of metal wire within the vacuum of the additive manufacturing machine PB WEBAM*. The inert environment prevents the material from being influenced by atmospheric gases. Using the electron beam also enables the creation of near-net-shape workpieces out of high-performance metals and reactive metals in a single process step. Thereby, the process is fast, material efficient and economic. Using our digitally controlled process, all operations can be automated and reproduced. There's another benefit: Upon request, the material can be varied during the process so that the component can be composed of different materials.

In addition, the wire-based PB WEBAM has an open system, whereby all parameters can be looked at and individually adjusted to each other. With the integrated wire feeder developed by pro-beam, a precise adjustment of the wire feed as well as a simple and flexible merging of the wire feeder data with the process data is possible.

    Powder-based additive manufacturing

Innovative AM process based on well-established pro-beam technology – for industrial serial production. Additive manufacturing using an electron beam in a powder bed (EBM – Electron Beam Melting) is suitable for both flexible and industrial serial production of compact as well as highly detailed components. Using our process, production times are shorter than with other comparable manufacturing processes.

With EBM, the component structure is melted in a powder bed using an electron beam that is added by the machine layer by layer. This process can be used for common alloys as well as for metals that, up until now, were difficult to process.

Our efficient and process reliable machine concept of the PB EBM 30S allows for a significantly faster production of workpieces. Several components can be formed within one production process. Moreover, the machine allows significantly maximized productivity, which has been realized through appropriate process parallelization. This eliminates non-productive times and the build chamber can be utilized to the full. There's another advantage: Components are created in a high, verifiable and reproducible quality due to an automated and digitally controlled process as well as in-situ monitoring. In-situ monitoring is based on the integrated, proprietary technology ELO (Electron Optical Monitoring) and regularly produces high-contrast images during the construction process that can be used for quality checks.

At the same time, the PB EBM 30S impresses with a unique exposure strategy that enables controlled and individual heat distribution. The size and geometry of the component play only a subordinate role. Like the PB WEBAM wire machine, the PB EBM 30S has an open system for viewing and adjusting all parameters and construction data.
